IPERION HSIntegrating Platforms for the European Research Infrastructure ON Heritage Science

Augustinian Abbey, Brno, Czech Republic

May 31- June 3, 2017

Deadline for abstract submission March 15, 2017

The conference will focus on interdisciplinary case studies observing the transformation of paintings in time and from any perspective. Topics for discussion will mainly be:

  • the processes of material degradation
  • life stories of artworks in the light of historical vs. analytical facts
  • restoration and preservation of modern art

The conference will be co-located with the 2nd CrysAC workshop: “Applied crystallography for the study of pigment degradation”. It will focus on finding answers to questions, how the pigments’ structure change upon modified conditions (temperature, humidity, acidity/alkalinity, light etc.), how to recognize these changes in actual paintings by advanced micro-analytical methods, and how these changes affect technological and/or artistic qualities of objects such as colour changes, mechanical degradation etc.
