MOLAB for the study of a particular photographic technique
The Cultural Heritage conservation research group of the University of Barcelona recently carried out, thanks to MOLAB, the study of some bromoils (a peculiar photographic technique dating back to the first half of the 20th century) belonging to the Maritime Museum of Barcelona. The CNR SCITEC research group of Perugia investigated the artworks with non-invasive techniques such as X-ray fluorescence, Raman and infrared spectroscopy. These analyses were focused on the characterisation of inks and binders used by the artist (Joaquin Pla Janini). Knowledge of materials that make up the artworks helps both in defining the photographic development processes to produce bromoils and in determining ad hoc systems for their conservation.
