DIFFABS beamline

DIFFABS : Combining X-Ray diffraction and absorption to study a large variety of materials.

Potential Results

It is possible to obtain: in situ monitoring of dechlorination treatment of marine archaeological artefacts by combination of microbeam techniques; determination of the polychromy techniques of the archaic Greek ceramic decorations. The XAS analysis allows the determination of the chemical state of the probed element and its local sourroundings; the XFR analysis gives the elemental composition of the sample with a spacial resolution equal to the beam size; the XRD analysis determines the mineranological phases inside the sample, in special cases can give long-range order and texture information.
